Being Respectful To Your Parents

Realize Why They Deserve Respect. Parents are usually kind, understanding people and if they've brought you up in the right way, you should be too. If your family have given you food, shelter, warmth, love and protection, it's best to give it back to them. Always give them the kind respect they deserve!

Be Polite. Always use good and proper manners in front of your parents and grandparents. Speak in a clear voice and act mature and friendly. Greet them with a kind "Hello," and remember to hold doors open for them and carry their bags, especially if they're getting older.

Use Friendly Gestures on Occasion. When you're worried about something, or just need someone to talk to, pick up the phone and call your parents. If they live far away, write them a letter or e-mail, just to show you care. Always remember birthdays and important events, by keeping them in a diary or notebook. If your parents are aging, it's better to write a letter than an e-mail, as they may not be as used to computers and might not write back or you can tell them in person.

Enjoy a Good Conversation. Share Problems. Share any worries or fears with your parents, as they've probably been through something similar before. It's better to get things out in the open with someone you know and trust. Always tell secrets that may be troubling you and remember to tell them how much you love them whenever you can. It may just be a simple conversation about what you saw on TV last night, or it may be a deep, heartfelt discussion about your darkest fears. Whatever the case, your parents are always there!

Love them unconditionally. We need to accept our parents for their shortcomings and understand that they have done the best they can do. They have nurtured and made us and now its time to do the same for them.
